Kyostendil takes its name from medieval times it is famous for its field, considered as the orchard of Bulgaria, the city in itself is renowned as a real welcome for artists and Art in general. Bulgarian solar energy has shown rapid development since 2011: Bulgaria is the 12th producer of solar PV electricity in Europe with 1.1% of the European total in 2018; its solar production amounted to 3.9% of Bulgarian electricity consumption (2017-2018), far behind Italy (7.3%), Greece (7.1%) and Germany (6 , 9%), but well ahead of France (1.95%).
